Let's talk about fear...

Fear prevents growth, fear prevents you from living your life to the fullest.

We quit our cushy comfortable corporate jobs of 10 years as forensic investigators… to travel the world.

Our families are worried. And in the months and weeks leading up to this we were also scared at times: fear of not having a steady income, fear of not getting jobs in the future (we live in South Africa after all and I am a white female, second to last on the job priority list), fear of the future and pension in old age. So basically, fear instilled in us by society and what “they” tell you is important.

Plus, as fraud and corruption investigators, our knowledge is mostly bound to South African law which is not universal. Besides the courses I completed on Refugee Law, Terrorism, and a few online blogging courses, we do not really have any other freelancing, marketable skills.

When we reflect on the past decade of our lives, we did learn a lot and we are grateful for the opportunities we had to work and save money … for our travels. But we realised that fear prevented us from growing as individuals and as a couple.

This fear prevented us from becoming our true selves, prevented us from connecting with source, and living our best lives. You do what you can to make yourself happy, and luckily, having the same ideas and beliefs, we could talk about our own individual spiritual growth and what we wanted out of life, and the eventual realisation that if we were to stay in this mundane, boring, soul-sucking job, our lives will never be what we want it to be.

So yes, stress and fear is normal, and also necessary at times, but you cannot let it rule your life, and you cannot let it dictate where your life is headed.

Think about it: would you rather be happy, truly happy, or would you rather do something you hate just to have money? And are you fulfilling your purpose? Does it give you joy? Cause if it doesn’t it’s not worth it.

People differ and yes, circumstances differ, but you choose the life you want, and that wasn’t the life we wanted.

Maybe you’re one of those lucky people who have a steady job that truly makes you happy. I am happy for you. But not all people are that lucky.

So please, pretty please, if you don’t like something about your life, don’t let fear rule you, be brave and take the step, because you only have this one life, and it’s not worth dying inside for it.

Aptly, I saw a post today that says:

“Don’t let the fear of what could happen make nothing happen”.
